Joseph F. Barrero, Chairman & CEO
Mr. Barrero has always demonstrated a passion community involvement. Mr. Barrero has 20 years of experience working with HUD on Moderate Rehab and Section 8 contracts in South Florida as the Vice President of Mar-Bar, Inc.- an organization that provides affordable housing for very low and low income families.
Keeping in step with his entrepreneurial spirit and love of technology, Joseph formed one of the first local Internet Service Providers in Miami, Florida called Expert.Net, Inc. Following the success of Expert.Net, Joseph quickly found success in the technology sector while working as the Director of Technology for Cybear, Inc., a subsidiary of Andrx Pharmaceuticals (ADRX), and as the Chief Technology Officer for Sweepsclub.Com, a company that would later be transformed as the marketing arm for Equifax, Inc.
As a founder and CEO of Cornerstone Financial Education, Mr. Barrero oversees the vision, direction, operation and mission of Cornerstone’s expansive financial education program and debt management program.
Mr. Barrero holds an Associates of Arts degree and several certifications for Financial Education & Counseling, Foreclosure & Loss Mitigation Counseling, and is co-author of Keeping the Cup Full: Financial Stewardship for Teens and Young Adults (2008, 2009) and Beating the Credit Game: Financial and Money Management for Teens and Young Adults (2008, 2009). Joseph resides in Austin, Texas with his wife Kim and their three children.
Juan C. Zorrilla, J.D., Board Member
Mr. Zorrilla is currently the Managing Member of Zorrilla and Associates, L.P. (Coral Gables, FL) with almost 20 years of experience practicing law. Mr. Zorrilla earned his baccalaureate degree in Philosophy and Political Science at Boston College (Chestnut Hill, MA) where he was graduated magna cum laude; and a Doctorate in Jurisprudence from the Boston College Law School (Chestnut Hill, MA). Mr. Zorrilla is a member of the American Bar Association, Florida Bar Association, Dade County Bar Association, Bankruptcy Bar Association, and the Cuban-American Bar Association. Mr. Zorrilla’s legal expertise is in the areas of commercial litigation, debtors’/creditors’ rights, bankruptcy, banking, and real estate. Juan resides in Coral Cables, Florida.
Robert R. Vallilee, Board Member
Mr. Vallilee is currently the Associate Director of Stewardship and Development Catholic Diocese of Austin, TX. Mr. Vallilee earned a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration at Syracuse University (Syracuse, New York) and is a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Vallilee experience spans various size companies. Beginning his career with Eastman Kodak, he also served as President of Wallace Imaging Company and was founder and executive of two start-up companies: Lithoimage and The Lithoprint Company (Waco, Texas). Mr. Vallilee also sits on the Board of Directors of Texas Medical Foundation, Health Quality Institute, and Partnership for Philanthropic Planning. Robert resides in Austin, Texas with his wife Marianne; they have two grown children and one grandchild.
Rose B. Castro, Board Member
Rose B. Castro is the part owner of real estate brokerage and property management company, Century 21 Ripley, in Austin, Texas. In this capacity, she is both office manager and a producing real estate agent, focusing on high-end residential properties. Rose is an engineer by education and experience. Prior to purchasing Century 21 Ripley, she was in corporate management at various bio-medical manufacturing companies, including Sulzer Medica, Sulzer Orthopedics and Smith & Nephew. Rose was born and raised in Wisconsin.
Carson Vaughn, Board Member
Mr. Vaughn earned his baccalaureate degree in Business Finance from Trinity University and is the managing partner for Advantage Mortgage and a certified trainer for Freddie Mac's Credit Smart financial literacy program. As an active member of the Austin community, Mr. Vaughn offers a wealth of experiance and knowledge in helping consumers qualify for local and federal housing programs.
